Nauryz – A Spring Celebration of Renewal and Unity

Nauryz is one of the brightest and most significant holidays in Central Asia, symbolizing the renewal of nature, the beginning of the new year, and the triumph of spring. Celebrated annually on March 22, the day of the spring equinox, it carries the spirit of ancient nomadic traditions, generosity, hospitality, and hope for a better future.

Preparations for Nauryz begin in advance: people clean their homes, refresh their wardrobes, and decorate houses and streets with symbols of spring — sprouted wheat, flowers, and greenery. During the holiday, families gather at festive tables, where the main dish is Nauryz kozhe, a soup made from seven ingredients symbolizing abundance and prosperity. It is served alongside traditional treats such as baursaks, plov, kuyrdak, kazy, and various sweets.

Public celebrations take place in city squares and parks: yurts are erected, live music fills the air, and visitors can enjoy craft workshops, traditional games, horseback riding, and theatrical performances. Tourists are warmly invited to join in rituals, taste local cuisine, and immerse themselves in the joyous atmosphere of spring renewal and heartfelt hospitality.

Visiting Central Asia during Nauryz is a perfect opportunity to discover the region's rich cultural heritage, witness living traditions, and return home not only with photos, but with unforgettable memories of a truly vibrant celebration.
