Visible from any point in the city, its 375 metres of steel have become a natural part of the Tashkent skyline. The Tashkent Tower is the tallest structure with an observation deck in all of Central Asia, and the 12th tallest TV tower in the world.
Construction began in 1978 and took six years to complete. The tower officially opened on 15 January 1985. At the time of its completion, it was the third-tallest tower in the entire USSR, surpassed only by the Ostankino Tower and the tower in Kyiv. The structure rests on three massive cone-shaped supports and was engineered for seismic resilience — a critical feature for Tashkent, which sits in a seismically active zone.
Since 1991, the tower has been a member of the World Federation of Great Towers. At a height of around 100 metres sits a revolving restaurant offering views across the entire city. At the foot of the tower stands the famous Plov Center — the place Tashkent locals go for genuine Uzbek plov, served straight from enormous kazans.
